Q Album Review Information: Remember you can ONLY turn in ONE Album Review, and it must come from the “Suggested Album Review” list posted on D2L in the “Performance/Album Review” tab. This album review MUST be an example Non-Western music. Again, while listening to the entire album use the tools we learn in this class as you observe all that happens. Ask yourself questions like: • What clearly makes this a performance? • What components of a music-culture can you detect? (refer to the textbook, p. 19, Table 1.1 and the supporting text) • Is this music? Who thinks so (or who thinks not)? How do you know? Writing your report: Your report should be typed and submitted to Assessments?Dropbox as stated in the syllabus. Your report should not exceed two pages, double-spaced. Your report should be a minimum of three paragraphs discussing the following questions/ideas: Paragraph 1: The Basics State the basics about the album… title of the album, performer(s), what instruments/voices, where it is coming from, when was it recorded, recording label. Paragraph (or section) 2: Observations of the Album Choose one piece (or comment on the entire album if you feel it more appropriate) and give commentary on the different aspects of the performance as outlined in the music-culture performance model explained in chapter 1 (Figure 1.6, p. 15). Be sure to comment on all four aspects: Affective Experience, Performance (how you might imagine it to be), Community, Memory/History. You may write multiple paragraphs if needed to address your observations of the album. Paragraph (or section) 3: Observations About the Music-Culture Comment on one or more things you noticed about the performance of a particular work (again, or the entire performance if you feel it more appropriate) from the point of view discussed in the component model of a musicculture. You may write multiple paragraphs if needed to address your observations of the music-culture. Optional Paragraph or Section 4: Is this Music? If you observed anything that leads you to develop interesting thoughts about this question, feel free to include them in a concluding paragraph. Attachments: Please attach, copy, or otherwise include the cover of the album (it could be a screen shot or a link to it online). Failure to include an attachment, will result in five (5) points be deducted from the review. Final Thoughts: Remember, this album that you review MUST come from the list of Suggested Albums. Reviews of any album outside of those listed in the course or provided by the instructor, MUST have the prior approval of the instructor. Unapproved performance/album reviews may be docked ten (10) points. ?
